The storage battery

The storage battery is a device for energy storage in the chemical form which can be used further as an electricity.

The storage battery works thanks to that two various metals, being in an acid solution, create a potential difference therefore the electric current is developed.

    On cars unattended storage batteries are established. In the storage battery it is not required to add the distilled water. The battery is completely tight except for small ventilating apertures in a cover.

Survey of the storage battery

    Switch off ignition and all consumers of electric energy. Disconnect wires from plugs of the storage battery. The negative wire is necessary for disconnecting first of all and to connect in last turn. Remove the battery from the car.

If the case of the storage battery is damaged, remove the battery in rubber gloves to protect a skin from electrolit.

    Check up elements of fastening of the battery as they can be damaged the electrolit which has got on them. If necessary clear their warm soda solution.
    The same solution clear the top part of the battery. Examine the battery on absence of cracks. If there are cracks, replace the battery. Clear plugs of the storage battery. Clear внутреннею a surface of clips of the wires connected to plugs of the storage battery. Establish the storage battery in the car. . Connect wires to plugs of the storage battery. Reliably tighten fastening of clips of wires to plugs of the storage battery. Put on plugs of the storage battery a thin layer of vaseline.

At gymnastics of storage batteries the explosive mix of gases is allocated.

At work with wires and electric devices using fire, the sparking devices open by fire-dangerous light devices and smoking is forbidden. It is necessary to avoid occurrence искрения at the reference with wires and electric devices.

Never close directly battery plugs – there is a big danger of reception of a trauma because of strong искрения.

Check of relative density of electrolit

Relative density of storage electrolit changes with temperature. Rise in temperature leads to relative density reduction and on the contrary.

Relative density of electrolit of completely charged accumulator room of the battery should be in limits between 1,260 and 1,280, at temperature 26,7C.

Relative density updating should be spent by addition of 0,04 points for everyone 5,56C above temperature 26,7C or subtraction of 0,04 points for everyone 5,56C below temperature 26,7C.

For example: Indications ареометра – 1,280 at temperature 5.56C. According to a difference of temperatures it is necessary to modify relative density on 0,028 points. True relative density is equal 1,252.

1,280–0,028=1,252

Do not measure relative density of electrolit at once after доливки the distilled water.

Distinction in relative density of electrolit between banks of the storage battery specifies that the battery is faulty also it in 50 and more points it is necessary to replace.
